Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers Jagat Prakash Nadda on Monday launched Aarogya Setu 2.0 alongside a series of digital health initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s Digital Public Infrastructure for Health.
Originally introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic, Aarogya Setu was developed by the Government of India as a national digital public platform to support contact tracing, risk awareness and citizen engagement. With its pandemic role completed, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) transferred the application to the National Health Authority (NHA) to support its long-term integration into India’s digital health ecosystem.
Aligned with the vision of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), Aarogya Setu has now been redesigned as a Personal Health Record (PHR) and citizen-facing digital health platform, expanding its role beyond emergency response into routine healthcare management.
Why Aarogya Setu 2.0 Matters
India’s digital health infrastructure has expanded rapidly under ABDM, with key foundations such as the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) now operating at scale. However, increasing public awareness and encouraging regular use of digital health services remain important priorities.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Aarogya Setu 2.0 has been developed to address this gap by serving as:
- A single, citizen-centric digital gateway for accessing health services
- A trusted personal health record for individuals and families
- A national awareness and adoption platform for ABDM services
With nearly 20 crore downloads and continued user growth, the platform is expected to help accelerate digital health adoption and embed digital services into everyday healthcare interactions across India.
Key Features of Aarogya Setu 2.0
Access to ABDM-enabled services
Users can create and manage their ABHA account, access health records and use Scan & Register functionality for faster hospital registration.
AI-powered Medical Record Digitisation
Powered by AI capabilities, the app enables users to upload and digitise medical records such as laboratory reports. By leveraging Google’s open-source Medical Data Toolkit, unstructured medical documents such as scanned PDFs and images can be converted into standardised, machine-readable data, supporting the creation of personalised health dashboards.
Integrated Health Tracking
Users can monitor and manage their health through connected features including vital tracking, personalised reminders, goal setting and syncing with wearable devices to monitor steps, calories, heart rate and glucose levels.
PM-JAY Wallet
The app comes with the PM-JAY Wallet feature that provides an overview of healthcare coverage under Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, including total balance, amount used, and family-wise consumption to support better planning for future medical needs.
CAPF Health Benefits Access
This feature allows users covered under Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) policies to view policy details, the list of covered family members and the reimbursement information.
Private Insurance
The platform also enables users to view private insurance information, including wallet balances and claim details.
Nearby Healthcare Services
Users can locate nearby hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centres and doctors using GPS-based search filters.
Integration with e-RaktKosh
Users can view real-time blood unit availability via e-RaktKosh for timely access to critical care and ambulance booking.
Scan & Share Functionality
The feature enables users to securely share profiles, records and payments to simplify healthcare interactions.
Family Health Management
With this feature, users can add and manage family member profiles, including parents, spouse and children under a single account, without the need for separate logins.
Medication Reminder
This feature helps users manage and follow prescribed schedules. Medicines can be added from prescriptions or manually, and set reminders based on dosage, timing and frequency.
Search PM-JAY Empanelled Hospital
The application allows users to search authorised hospitals offering cashless treatment under PM-JAY using filters such as state, district, speciality, PIN code and facility name.
Consent-based Data Sharing
Through the ‘My Consent’ feature, users can control how their health information is shared. The dashboard allows users to track requested, approved, pending, denied and expired permissions, reinforcing data privacy and user control in line with India’s digital health privacy frameworks.
Alongside Aarogya Setu 2.0, the government launched several other digital health platforms, including Ayushman App, Ayushman Sarathi WhatsApp Chatbot, National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX), Insurance Plan FHIR Object Creator, e-Sushrut Clinic, Unified Health Interface (UHI), Drug Registry, Common LOINC Codes for India (CLCI) and Bharat Health Terminology Service (BHTS).
These initiatives are intended to improve interoperability, streamline healthcare delivery and strengthen continuity of care across India’s evolving digital health ecosystem.
