Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals has launched a DCGI-approved triple-action capsule combining Pregabalin, Methylcobalamin and Duloxetine (Delayed Release) for the management of diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain associated with Vitamin B12 deficiency.
Neuropathy is becoming an increasing public health challenge in India, driven by rising diabetes rates and widespread nutritional deficiencies. With more than 100 million people living with diabetes in the country, studies indicate that around 25–50 per cent of diabetic patients may develop neuropathy over time. Vitamin B12 deficiency, which is common among urban populations, can further worsen symptoms including tingling, numbness, fatigue and cognitive difficulties.
Peripheral neuropathy is a progressive neurological disorder that can cause burning sensations, tingling, numbness, shooting pain and gradual loss of nerve function. Without timely treatment, it may lead to irreversible nerve damage, mobility issues, sleep disturbances and a significant impact on quality of life.
Akums’ newly introduced formulation combines Pregabalin 75 mg, Methylcobalamin 1500 mcg, and Duloxetine 20 mg/30 mg (Delayed Release), offering a multi-pronged treatment approach. Pregabalin works to reduce abnormal nerve activity and ease neuropathic pain, while Duloxetine acts on central pain pathways by inhibiting serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake and also helps improve anxiety and sleep-related concerns. Methylcobalamin, the neurologically active form of Vitamin B12, aids in the regeneration of damaged nerve fibres by supporting myelin sheath repair and improving nerve conduction.
According to the company, a distinguishing feature of the therapy is its dual-delivery technology, which enables the immediate and consistent release of Pregabalin and Methylcobalamin while ensuring targeted intestinal delivery of Duloxetine.
The innovative design helps optimize the absorption of each active ingredient, supporting better treatment outcomes and enhanced patient comfort. The formulation is designed to promote therapeutic consistency, improve convenience, and support long-term treatment adherence.
Commenting on the launch, Sandeep Jain, Managing Director, Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, said, “India is witnessing a sharp rise in neuropathy cases driven by diabetes, nutritional deficiencies, and lifestyle disorders. Managing this condition requires more than symptomatic relief—it demands a holistic approach that supports nerve repair and long-term neurological health. Our triple-action formulation is a science-led innovation that combines multiple mechanisms into a single, patient-friendly dosage form to improve outcomes and adherence.”
Sanjeev Jain, Managing Director, Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, highlighted the growing need for therapies that address multiple dimensions of patient care within a single treatment approach.
He added, “This formulation combines pain management with nerve health support, offering clinicians a comprehensive option for neuropathy management while reinforcing our focus on developing differentiated and clinically relevant therapies for India’s healthcare needs.”
Akums noted that the CNS and neuropathy treatment market in India is expanding steadily, driven by increasing disease prevalence, improved diagnosis rates, and growing awareness among healthcare professionals and patients. Meanwhile, combination therapies are gaining prominence for their ability to address multiple disease pathways while simplifying treatment regimens.
