Akums Drugs and Pharmaceuticals has expanded its presence in the beauty and personal care segment with the introduction of a new portfolio of moisturisation formulations designed to address diverse skincare needs.
The portfolio spans everyday hydration, intensive moisturisation, nourishment, skin-barrier care and targeted skincare.
The range incorporates different formulation approaches, featuring ingredients such as ceramides, peptides, butters, minerals and targeted actives. It includes products designed for both everyday and intensive moisturisation, as well as formulations targeting specific skincare needs, including acne-prone skin and uneven skin tone.
The launch comes ahead of the winter season in India, when colder and drier conditions can contribute to skin dryness and discomfort, increasing the need for moisturisation and skin-barrier support. For cosmetic brands, this seasonal demand also presents opportunities to develop products that go beyond basic hydration.
Sanjeev Jain, managing director, Akums Drugs and Pharmaceuticals, said, “Winter naturally brings moisturisation into sharper focus, but the opportunity goes beyond a seasonal product cycle. Consumers are becoming more aware of ingredients and increasingly looking for products that serve a specific purpose.”
He added that the company had focused on developing different formulation directions within an established category, while considering the requirements of commercial manufacturing.
The development forms part of Akums’ broader focus on cosmetic, dermatology and topical manufacturing, alongside its established pharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) business. The company supports product development across various topical formulations, enabling brands to explore different ingredients, textures and product concepts for domestic and international markets.
Arushi Jain, director, Akums Drugs and Pharmaceuticals, said although moisturization is an established category, there remains considerable scope to innovate through formulation, texture and ingredient selection.
“Consumers are increasingly looking for products that fit specific skincare routines rather than a single solution for everyone. This portfolio has been developed with that shift in mind, while keeping formulation feasibility and commercial scalability important to the development process,” she added.
The launch also comes as Akums strengthens its presence across the beauty and personal care ecosystem. The company’s recent acquisition of Oriflame India’s manufacturing operations further expands its capabilities in cosmetics and personal care, combining manufacturing expertise with a deeper understanding of the beauty category.
