American healthcare technology company Ember LifeSciences, a provider of advanced pharmaceutical cold chain solutions, has entered into a capital and business alliance with Japanese pharmaceutical distributor Alfresa Corporation to strengthen pharmaceutical cold chain logistics in Japan.
Under the partnership, Alfresa will work with Ember to enhance the quality of temperature-controlled pharmaceutical distribution across the country. The companies will also evaluate the use of the Ember Cube and related technologies for Alfresa’s Home Care Delivery service, which delivers specialty medicines directly from medical institutions to patients’ homes.
As part of the alliance, Alfresa will invest in Ember through its Series A preferred stock to support the company’s business expansion and deepen collaboration. The agreement also grants Alfresa exclusive rights to market Ember’s healthcare solutions in Japan.
Commenting on the partnership, Clay Alexander, Ember founder and CEO, said, “As our Ember Cube 2 continues to gain international acclaim for its revolutionary design, this strategic investment and distribution alliance marks a pivotal milestone.”
The Ember Cube 2 is designed to maintain temperatures between 2°C and 8°C for more than 72 hours while continuously monitoring shipment conditions and location. The reusable container also helps reduce packaging waste compared with conventional single-use shipping materials.
“The rapid growth of biopharmaceuticals and vaccines — with the number of temperature‑sensitive products increasing each year — demands absolute precision in cold chain logistics,” said Yusuke Fukujin, representative director and president, Alfresa.
He added that the partnership with Ember reinforces their commitment to advance cold chain pharmaceutical logistics in the Japanese market.
