FUJIFILM Installs AI-Powered Mammography System at NM Medical in Mumbai

FUJIFILM’s AMULET SOPHINITY platform combines advanced AI-enabled technologies, high-definition imaging capabilities, and ergonomically designed patient-centric features.

FUJIFILM India has announced the first installation of its latest AI-powered digital mammography system, AMULET SOPHINITY, at NM Medical’s Khar centre in Mumbai

The move reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to strengthen preventive healthcare infrastructure and support early detection of breast cancer through advanced imaging technology.

Built around the philosophy of “Sophisticated Features. Human Comfort,” AMULET SOPHINITY integrates advanced AI-enabled technologies, high-definition imaging capabilities, and ergonomically designed patient-centric features to improve patient comfort, diagnostic precision, and workflow efficiency.

The system is equipped with Fujifilm’s advanced detector technology, featuring a 50 μm direct conversion detector with a unique hexagonal pixel structure, enabling high-definition imaging while supporting low-dose screening. It also offers tomosynthesis imaging in both Standard and High-Resolution modes to support improved lesion visibility and diagnostic confidence. Additional features include S-View synthesized 2D imaging and optional Contrast Enhanced Digital Mammography (CEDM).

FUJIFILM India noted that the system has been specifically designed to improve patient experience during mammography procedures. Compared to conventional models, AMULET SOPHINITY features a thinner detector with curved edges, reducing abdominal pressure during positioning and improving comfort for wheelchair users and women across varying body types. The platform also incorporates Comfort Comp automatic decompression technology, which intelligently reduces compression pressure after optimal positioning while maintaining image quality.

To strengthen workflow efficiency and positioning accuracy, the system integrates Fujifilm’s REiLI Medical AI technologies. These include Intelligent AEC for optimized dose management based on breast composition, Positioning MAP for reproducible positioning support, and AI-driven Positioning Analysis tools that assist technologists in continuously improving imaging quality and consistency.

FUJIFILM’s new mammography system also features a compact design that makes it suitable for hospitals and diagnostic centres with limited space.

Koji Wada, Managing Director of FUJIFILM India, said the company remains committed to bringing advanced Japanese healthcare technologies to India to support early diagnosis, improve access to care, and enhance patient outcomes.

Dr. Nilesh Shah, Chairman of NM Medical, said technology plays an important role in enabling timely detection, improving diagnostic confidence, and making the screening experience more comfortable for patients.

Dr. Shilpa Lad, Consultant Breast Imaging and Interventions, NM Medical, added that advanced digital mammography and tomosynthesis technologies can help radiologists achieve better visualization while making the screening experience more patient-friendly.
