Gland Pharma has announced the appointment of Deepak Sapra as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of the company.
Sapra will join Gland Pharma effective November 16, 2026, subject to his acceptance of the offer made by the company.
The company’s board approved the appointment based on the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee, Gland Pharma said in a regulatory filing on Friday.
Sapra brings 27 years of executive experience, including over 23 years in the pharmaceutical industry. He currently serves as the chief executive officer – API and Services at Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL) and as a board member of Aurigene Pharma Services.
In his current role, Sapra oversees global portfolio strategy and leads an integrated B2B business spanning generic pharmaceuticals, CDMO services, APIs, collaborations and alliances, public health and global patient access.
He has experience in market expansion and entry, business development, licensing, M&A and portfolio creation across India, the United States, Europe, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, China, Japan and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
His expertise covers the end-to-end pharmaceutical value chain, including CDMO partnerships, generics, APIs, sales and marketing, international business management, business development, supply chain management, R&D, operations, portfolio strategy, public health and access-led partnerships.
Prior to his current position, Sapra served as chief executive officer – Custom Pharmaceutical Services, where he led a global CDMO business serving innovator pharmaceutical companies across the United States, Europe and Japan.
From 2011 to 2015, he held senior leadership positions as vice president – Global Generics Business Development and senior director – Global Generics Portfolio Management.
Sapra holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Jamalpur, and a Master’s degree in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. He was also a recipient of the Chevening Scholarship at the University of Bradford, UK, and a Fulbright Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA.
