India’s First Centre of Excellence for Myeloma & Lymphoma Launched

The launch of the Centre of Excellence for Myeloma and Lymphoma is described as a major milestone in India’s haematology landscape.

Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI), Gurugram, has launched India’s first Centre of Excellence for Myeloma & Lymphoma, aimed at transforming blood cancer care through a specialised, patient-focused and research-driven model built on the philosophy of “One Disease. One Doctor. One Focus.”

The centre brings together a multidisciplinary team of experts along with advanced diagnostics, precision medicine, innovative therapies, stem cell transplantation, cellular therapies, clinical research, and comprehensive patient support services under one roof.

The Institute said that the initiative is designed to improve patient outcomes, accelerate access to innovation, strengthen translational research, and establish new benchmarks in the management of myeloma and lymphoma in India.

Dr Rahul Bhargava, Principal Director & Chief, Haematology, Hemato-Oncology & Bone Marrow Transplant, FMRI, said the centre reflects the institute’s commitment to providing highly specialised care for patients with complex blood cancers.

“Just as bispecific antibodies bring immune cells and cancer cells together to achieve better outcomes, this Centre brings together the brightest minds across genomics, genetics, pathology, translational science, data analytics, haematology, radiation oncology, cellular therapy, CAR-T, and clinical research,” he said.

He added that the collaborative ecosystem would help translate scientific discoveries into personalised treatment strategies, enabling patients to access advanced diagnostics, therapies, and clinical innovations.

Dr Shrinidhi Nathany, Consultant, Molecular Haematology & Oncology, FMRI, highlighted the growing role of genomics in reshaping blood cancer treatment.

She explained that advanced genomic profiling helps understand each patient’s disease at a molecular level, identify actionable mutations, personalise treatment approaches, monitor disease more accurately, and connect patients with targeted therapies and clinical trials.

She added that integrating genomics, pathology, translational science and clinical oncology would help accelerate the journey from scientific discovery to improved patient outcomes, advancing precision medicine in haematologic cancers.

Yash Rawat, Senior Vice President & SBU Head, FMRI, described the launch as a major milestone in India’s haematology landscape and reinforced FMRI’s position as a leader in advanced cancer and transplant care.

He said the centre is expected to become a national referral hub for patients seeking specialised treatment for myeloma and lymphoma, while also supporting clinical research, medical education, and the development of future standards of care in haematologic oncology.
