SynbioTech Introduces Probiotic to Combat Immune Ageing

Unlike conventional immune support products that focus mainly on seasonal wellness, SynbioTech’s newly launched probiotic is designed to support healthy immune ageing.

Taiwan-based biotech company SynbioTech has launched a clinically validated probiotic solution, SYNMUE, aimed at tackling immune ageing, also known as immunosenescence.

According to SynbioTech, few nutritional solutions currently target immunosenescence — the age-related decline in immune function associated with increased susceptibility to infections, slower recovery, and reduced physiological resilience.

SYNMUE is designed to support long-term immune resilience in older adults by targeting declining Natural Killer (NK) cell activity — a key hallmark of age-related immune decline. NK cells are a key component of the innate immune system and act as one of the body’s first-line defence mechanisms by identifying and eliminating virus-infected and abnormal cells.

The probiotic features Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LP28, which demonstrated up to a 48 per cent increase in NK cell cytotoxic activity among adults aged 50 and above in the company’s latest human clinical study, suggesting stronger immune support and improved immune surveillance.

SynbioTech, which specializes in probiotics, postbiotics, and microbiome-based health solutions, said the launch marks its expansion into the emerging immune aging category.

SynbioTech COO Sean Yang said, “SYNMUE was developed to address a critical dimension of healthy aging that has often been overlooked. As people live longer, maintaining immune resilience becomes increasingly important for preserving healthspan.”

The company added that, unlike conventional immune support products focused primarily on seasonal wellness, SYNMUE is positioned around immune ageing and long-term immune resilience.

LP28 study results

As NK cell activity naturally declines with age, reduced immune surveillance is increasingly being linked to immune aging. SynbioTech’s study on LP28 involved adults aged 50 to 75 years with a history of recurrent upper respiratory tract infections. During the 12-week intervention, participants receiving LP28 recorded up to a 48 per cent increase in NK cell cytotoxic activity from baseline, while placebo responses remained largely unchanged.

Researchers also observed favourable changes in immune-related biomarkers, including increased interleukin-12 (IL-12) and reduced C-reactive protein (CRP), indicating improved immune regulation and lower inflammatory burden.

Participants taking LP28 additionally experienced a substantially lower incidence of common colds during the study period. According to the company, these findings suggest that improvements in NK cell activity and immune regulation may translate into meaningful real-world health benefits for aging adults.

This mechanism is reflected in SYNMUE’s brand concept, “Wake Your Natural Killer,” highlighting the product’s focus on restoring immune resilience through clinically validated microbiome science.

Building science-backed microbiome solutions

While SYNMUE focuses on immune resilience through NK cell activation, SynbioTech’s flagship ingredient, TWK10, targets another critical dimension of healthy aging — muscle resilience.

Backed by multiple human clinical studies, TWK10 has demonstrated benefits in muscle strength, endurance, recovery, and protein utilization through modulation of the gut-muscle axis.

SynbioTech said TWK10 and SYNMUE together reflect its expanding vision for healthy aging, supporting both muscle and immune resilience through clinically validated microbiome science.

“Healthy ageing is multidimensional. Preserving muscle function and immune resilience are both essential to extending healthspan. Through SYNMUE and TWK10, we are building science-backed microbiome solutions designed to help people age stronger, stay resilient, and live better,” Yang added.

According to market research estimates, the global immune health supplements market was valued at more than USD 35 billion in 2024 and is projected to exceed USD 76 billion by 2033.

Meanwhile, the United Nations forecasts that the global population aged 65 and older will more than double, from 761 million in 2021 to 1.6 billion by 2050, driving growing demand for solutions that support healthy aging and long-term resilience.

SynbioTech will showcase its healthy aging innovations at Probiota Americas 2026, scheduled to take place from June 8 to 10 in Vancouver, Canada.
