Milann Fertility and Birthing Hospital, Bengaluru, has introduced the Needle-Free Injection System (N-FIS), a drug-delivery technology that enables the administration of selected medications without a conventional needle and syringe.
The technology supports subcutaneous (SC) and intramuscular (IM) drug delivery, depending on the medication and the patient’s clinical requirements.
Milann has acquired the N-FIS technology and trained nursing teams across its units in Bengaluru and Chandigarh in its use through training sessions and demonstrations.
N-FIS is currently being used for eligible patients at Milann based on clinical suitability. Its initial application at the hospital is for recombinant follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), Follisurge, used during fertility treatment.
Fertility treatment can involve repeated injectable medications, particularly during ovarian stimulation for procedures such as in vitro fertilisation (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and egg freezing. For patients undergoing medication over several days, repeated needle-based injections can contribute to discomfort, bruising and needle-related anxiety.
Unlike conventional needle-and-syringe injections,N-FIS uses controlled pressure to deliver medication through the skin as a fine, spray-like dispersion.

Anjali Ajaikumar, director, Milann Fertility and Birthing Hospital, Bengaluru, said, “Fertility treatment can be physically and emotionally demanding, and repeated injections can add to the anxiety for some patients. With N-FIS, we are offering a needle-free alternative for selected medications, helping make the medication administration experience more comfortable while keeping the patient’s clinical requirements at the centre of the treatment plan.”
The system has so far been used in a small number of patients at Milann, with trained nursing staff overseeing administration. According to the hospital, the initial experience has been positive, with patients finding the needle-free method more comfortable and convenient.
Where clinically appropriate, eligible patients may also be trained to self-administer the medication under the guidance of the treating team, the hospital said.
Milann added that the cost of medication administration through N-FIS is expected to be broadly comparable with the existing injection-delivery system. The technology is not intended to replace conventional injections across all fertility treatments, but to provide an additional drug-delivery option for eligible patients.
